John & Kelly’s Holy Cross Wedding

July 5, 2018

On June 2nd, 2018 Kelly and John had the biggest of days: it started with their Holy Cross wedding and followed up with their reception at the Overland Park Fire Training Center.  Both locations have family history to make them meaningful.  Kelly’s family grew up down the street from Holy Cross, Kelly’s father was a firefighter with Overland Park Fire Department, and they served food at the reception from the family business Fireside BBQ.   They even got to use their 1970’s firetruck for the couple to use in their photographs.  All day long, John and Kelly had friends and family around to help and celebrate.   It was a wonderful day and I hope you enjoy these highlights from this special Holy Cross Wedding and Fire Center Reception.

details for a wedding day including hunting knife, his & hers ring boxes, bridal gown with cowboy boots, and flower girl shoesThe day started with a power outage at Salon Expose, where the girls were planning on getting their hair and makeup done.  Needless to say, that changed around some plans and set the schedule a touch (okay, a lot…) behind right off the bat.  But the girls were troopers, didn’t let the stress get them, and kept a smile on their faces.  A good friend and amazing makeup artist, Savannah stepped in and really helped throughout the day.  I am pretty sure by the end of the night she deserved the title of “day of coordinator”.  I love the photographs of Deborah, Kelly’s mom, helping her into her dress.  You can really feel the love in those images. bride getting makeup done and mother of bride putting on her dress and veilSome final touch-ups before the girls head out for some quick portraits in Holy Cross’s beautiful garden and with the fire truck.

Kelly and John didn’t want to see each other before the ceremony, so you could really start to feel their anticipation for the walk down the aisle.  Kelly’s father, step-father, and brother walked her down the aisle and gave her away.

First dances with both of Kelly’s dads and John and his mother. It’s always nice to be able to head outside when the party is well underway with Mr. & Mrs.  The nerves from the day are calmed, the sun is not as hot on their tired bodies, and the light is beautiful.  We had a lot of fun creating these timeless portraits for them that really reflect thier love and appreciation for each other. wedding day photographs with couple inside 1970's fire truck
