Many many congratulations to Olivia and Lance! They truly are an amazing couple and I wish them a lifetime of happiness. Lance got ready at their home in Brookside with their dogs and his brother, who also held the title best man. They had both their wedding and reception at Californo’s in Westport. If you have never been to Californo’s, it’s a very neat restaurant and event space with great food and wine. It also is a great location to showcase Kansas City’s urban streets (especially since the Royals were doing their best to win the World Series).
The first look. This may be one of my favorite parts of their day. The expression on both of their faces when they saw each other for the first time was priceless. Sheer joy. And excitement. And you could see the nerves melt away…which was soon replaced by tears. I am pretty sure I caught both of them crying (although Lance made a remark about his eyes watering, but I am pretty sure I know better). How could you not be moved to tears upon seeing a woman as wonderful and beautiful as Olivia in her wedding dress? THE wedding dress she is going to marry you in? I would say the emotion is fitting.
Notice those blue flags? Way to go Royals!
The ceremony was performed by a family friend, Dr. Coleman, which was a very nice touch to their day. The ceremony was held at dusk, so it felt very intimate in the space, giving his words the depth they deserve. And that receiving line! Oh, how I love the expressions!
The toasts were so touching. And again I teared up. So much heartfelt love and support was expressed…and then Olivia’s sister pulled out the cash out voucher from their first double date. She had been saving it all this time. When the matron of honor can’t get through her sentences because her love is coming out in tears, it has an effect. With her sister to the rescue, the toasts were completed. Moments like these make me so proud to work with the couples and families that I do.
From the beginning, when they talked about their wedding day during our consults and engagement session, Lance and Olivia talked about how excited they were to have all their friends and family there to celebrate (Olivia’s family hasn’t had a wedding as an excuse to get together in 10 years!). Knowing that, I thought that the frame walk would be an excellent addition to their reception. I think it was not only fun for me, but also the wedding guests! Again, it was an honor to capture your wedding day. Thank you!
Yours,
Rebecca
